The (Fake) Xiomi Nepal’s 1000 Redmi Note 10 Pro Giveaway Scam

The internet is filled with many scammers scamming innocent people of their money, personal information & other valuable resources which can be later used to harm or cause trouble to the victims. One such scam was spotted just a few days after Xiomi Nepal launched their most awaited Xiomi Note 10 Pro in The Nepalese market.

The scam showed up in a form of an ad on facebook which claimed that Xiomi Nepal is giving away free 1000s of Xiomi mobiles i.e the Xiomi Note 10 Pro.

In order to get one, the ad instructed its viewers to click on the site link below & enter all the personal details correctly. The user is then redirected to a site called link tree which showed few link options where the user should click on one and enter their details such as their facebook ID & Password. Once the user enters the details and continues, he is redirected to some static site without any further more updates or information. Minutes later the same user’s facebook ID gets hacked, the user credentials changed & the process goes on.

So what exactly happened here? Well basically these scams are known as Phising Scams where the victims are made to enter their login, bank & other important credentials on a specially made phising website which would exactly look identical to the original website. Many of the victims usualy fall for this & end up with heavy losses & loss of ownership of their accounts.

So how can we avoid these scams? Many of us are easily lured by the catchy ad titles & pictures which easily convinces us that its 100% legit but end up with an emptied bank balance or a stolen Identity. One easy way to know if the site is legit or a scam is by checking the url. Many phising, fake, hacking sites have url which different from the original. Another way is to avoiding such ads and only following the original page & websites even if any such giveaways exists.

Xiomi Nepal in a statement release said that to know which of their page is legit is by checking the blue tick matk which is given to the Official pages.
